Billy Sun is Rayla Dean's "bro" and love interest. They've known each other since middle school. A big fight resulted in ignoring each other for three years, but being forced to sit together on a bus for the school trip in 9th grade, they made up as friends. The two partake in "bromance" as much as a girl and guy can. Rayla has misplaced feelings for him, because he is divinely gorgeous, and is forced to give him advice about his long distance girlfriend that lives in Austin, Texas. This causes a lot of bickering between them, though the source is unseen.
Billy Sun is part Korean. He lives alone with his piano teaching Oklahoman mother, Kylie Sun. His father, Ji Sun, first generation Korean-American, is a marine and computer programer. Billy is advanced for a student at Pink High school and goes to Polldale Math and Science Academy for a good amount of the school day to study engineering. He wants to design planes and fly commercial jets.
Things Billy and Rayla often bicker about:

- Billy's glasses/brand name obsession

One day, Jenny Estes points out to Rayla that Billy Sun looks a lot like Korean idol Rain Bi. When Rayla says she doesn't know who the heck Rain Bi is, Jenny is horrified. She finds on the New York Times the list of the world's most influential people and also People's Most Beautiful Men 2007. Jenny finds a picture of Rain Bi in big black rimmed glasses and it suddenly clicks for Rayla. The reason she is always bickering with Billy and fails to state her true feelings half the time is because she is devastated by his beauty and her misplaced feelings.
